Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS) are among the most prestigious residential schools in India, run under the Ministry of Defence and affiliated to the CBSE board. Admissions for Class VI and Class IX for both boys and girls are now open for the academic session 2026–27.

The schools are located in Chail (Himachal Pradesh), Ajmer (Rajasthan), Belgaum (Karnataka), Bengaluru (Karnataka), and Dholpur (Rajasthan). Students aspiring to join RMS must go through a competitive admission process that includes a Common Entrance Test (CET), an interview, and a medical examination.

Important Dates for RMS Admission 2026–27

  • Availability of Online Application Forms & Fee Payment: From 10th September 2025 (10:00 AM) to 9th October 2025 (8:00 PM)

  • Admit Card Release: November–December 2025

  • Result Declaration: January 2026

  • Interview & Medical Examination: January–March 2026

Eligibility Criteria

  • For Class VI Admission:

    • Age: 10 to 12 years as of March 31, 2026

    • Education: Must have passed or be studying in Class V from a recognized school.

  • For Class IX Admission:

    • Age: 13 to 15 years as of March 31, 2026

    • Education: Must have passed or be studying in Class VIII from a recognized school.

 A relaxation of six months in age is applicable for wards of personnel killed in action.

Admission Process

  1. Online Application: Candidates must register on the official RMS website and complete the form between 10th September and 9th October 2025. The application fee must also be paid online within this time frame.

  2. Common Entrance Test (CET):

    • Class VI: Exam based on Class V-level syllabus covering English, Mathematics, General Knowledge, and Intelligence.

    • Class IX: Exam based on Class VIII-level syllabus covering English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science.

  3. Interview Round: Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview to assess personality, aptitude, and suitability for RMS training.

  4. Medical Examination: All provisionally selected candidates must undergo a medical fitness test at designated military hospitals.

  5. Final Merit List: Based on combined performance in CET, interview, and medical examination, the final selection list will be announced.

Reservation of Seats

  • 70% of seats are reserved for wards of JCOs/OR (including ex-servicemen).

  • 30% of seats are for wards of officers and civilians.

  • Further reservations: SC (15%)ST (7.5%), and 10 seats per school for wards of personnel killed in action.

  • Girls are also eligible for admission in both Class VI and Class IX, with seats reserved as per the official policy.
